OCS vs iPhone round 2 – Modality Systems launches iDialog

Information from modalitys blog

iDialog is an OCS 2007 and OCS 2007 R2 compatible client for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch.

At Modality, we’re big users of OCS, but we also use iPhones.  Initially, we just wanted to build this for ourselves, so we could have the best of both worlds. It became clear that the applicability was much broader given the success of the iPhone as a business tool.

"Sorry, but i can't seem to connect you to your conference right now. Please try your call again later. Goodbye."

I recently got some problem when installing a OCS R2 with a Sip trunk from interoute. The problem was that no external calles from the PSTN could join conferences hosted on this server. They  just heard "Sorry, but i can’t seem to connect you to your conference right now. Please try your call again later. Goodbye."

(however it did work for the first calle the first time after a complete server restart but after that no more until a new restart.)

And when looking in LM or MOC you could see the caller appear for like a 10th of a second and then get kicked out again. Log files did not say much and tracing just showed me one red line and google that showed me nothing… However google showed me this post by Jeff at PointBridge but at first i did not think of it that much. But since i could not find anything else i gave it a try, My CA server is a Windows Server 2008 enterprise and its basically installed with a next next next finish and the cert is created from the OCSR2 cert guide thingy so i would say that everything is default, my cert haw a Signature Algorithm of md5RSA and Jeff had sha256. I created a new certificate for the OCS server but this time i choose a Win 2003 CA instead and i got a signature of sha1, after this i restarted the services and boom it works

So if you hear "Sorry, but i can’t seem to connect you to your conference right now. Please try your call again later. Goodbye." and everything looks ok… check the certificate.

iPhone VS OCS 2007 r2 round one

So iwe switched from winmo to an iPhone and i really like it allot as a device for my private life, all the apps rocks and its fast and responsive, (so was my x1 with no apps running) anyways i miss COMO allot.

So after an hour or so on Google i found out that i had 2 possibilities, and out of those 2 non will probably work for me since the iphone sux at push notifications. Webmessenger apparently requires a server in-between its client and the OCS and don’t even goes trough the edge server if i get it right so this makes the only thing i could try to just browse to the Communicator Web Access in safari.

First you have to disable the pop up blocker.

Then just open safari and enter the url to your CWA.

Iphone 032

Well this looked good, usually you type in your sip address in the first window but here you should typ in domain\user & password. Then just log in….

Iphone 027

Trying to open a new window from here did not work for me so i can not start a chat with anyone.

Iphone 028

However dropdowns work so i can change my Call forwarding settings, set a note and change presence.

Iphone 029

Expanding distribution groups does also work fine.

Iphone 030

Search for a contact works…

Iphone 031

but the add button is missing so it kinds of stops after searching.

Conclusion its useless as of now. But i hope someone comes up with something that works cause I’m really missing it and i cant have 2 phones in my pocket…

OCS R2 change in codec for PSTN calls

I found out today that the codec being used when making a PSTN call is now in some special conditions G711

G711 may be used for calls to the PSTN depending on a number of network characteristics:

  • Round trip delay of less than 20ms
  • Call originates from the LAN

So why change from RTAudio since we have been told that it is so superior? Well apparently RTAudio uses more CPU and is a wide band codec witch can not be used in a PSTN call anyway.

But if Communicator detects changes in the network characteristics, such as an increase in the round trip delay, the codec will automatically switch to RTAudio in order to ensure the call continues without issues.
